Helmsley Walking Weekend – Friday 20 March to Sunday 22 March 2026

Black Swan Hotel – Dinner, bed & breakfast for 2 nights.

Parking is very limited at hotel and is on a first come basis. A long stay public car park is available about 5 minutes from hotel at the Cleveland Way Car park, YO62 5AZ. Charges are daily so remember to renew.

No packed lunch provided on Saturday. Fend for yourselves but plenty of shops in the town centre.

WALK PROGRAMME

Friday, 20 March 2026 

Starting from the Black Swan Hotel at 11.00am.

A walk from the town centre into and around the parklands comprising Duncombe Park, initially following the River Rye. Temporarily leaving the parkland at the Western edge by joining the Cleveland Way before re-entering the Northern edge of Duncombe Park and returning to Helmsley.

Essentially a gentle stroll through flat parkland and woodland.

Distance: 6 miles with 600ft of ascent.

Shorter Walk

Starting from the Black Swan Hotel. Time of departure to be agreed by walk leader.

Route: Up into Beck Dale, Collier Hag Wood, High Baxton’s Farm, Carlton Grange, Keld Lane, returning via Ash Dale (part of the Tabular Hills Walk). On a fine day an option to add one mile by returning via Riccal Dale Wood.

Distance: 8 miles with 650 ft. of ascent

Longer Walk

Starting from the Black Swan Hotel. Time of departure to be agreed by walk leader.

Route: Leaving Helmsley on the Cleveland Way, Rievaulx Abbey, Crabtree Hall, Oscar Park Farm, High Baxton’s Farm returning via Ash Dale.

Distance: 10.5 miles with 1,100 ft. of ascent
